Real-time shipment tracking with GPS and WhatsApp notifications.
Project Overview
Atlas Freight is a logistics control portal that turns scattered phone calls into a live view of every shipment. Dispatchers follow each delivery on a map in real time, track progress against the plan, and the system notifies clients automatically — by WhatsApp and SMS — without anyone making a call.
Client Challenges
- Clients called constantly asking “where is my delivery?”, tying up the dispatchers.
- No central view of the fleet: progress was tracked in spreadsheets and phone calls.
- No automatic client communication — every update meant manual messages, and delays were discovered too late.
Our Solution
- A live tracking portal fed by GPS telematics from the trucks: position, route, estimated arrival and status updates in real time.
- Automated client notifications triggered by events — picked up, in transit, out for delivery, delivered — sent by WhatsApp and SMS.
- Delay detection: the system compares live position against the plan and alerts the dispatcher before the client notices.
- Driver & fleet overview: which vehicle is where, what it carries, and when it arrives — at a glance.
Key Features
- Live map view: each shipment positioned in real time with ETA and progress.
- Status timeline: collection, departure hub, in transit, delivery — automatically updated.
- WhatsApp/SMS notifications: clients are informed at every key step, no manual work.
- Delay alerts: early warnings when a route slips from the plan.
- Shipment list: dispatchers filter, sort and prioritize by ETA, all in one screen.
Tech Stack
- Backend: Symfony (PHP) · Real-time: Mercure (WebSocket)
- Telematics: GPS/telematics API from the fleet
- Mapping: interactive map (Leaflet)
- Notifications: WhatsApp Business API + SMS
- Storage: Cloudflare R2 (documents and PODs)
Results & Impact
- −70 % of “where is my delivery?” calls answered proactively by notifications.
- 96,2 % of shipments delivered on time after delay alerts were introduced.
- +38 % more shipments handled by the same dispatchers.
- −85 % manual client messages replaced by automated ones.
- 2,5 min average time to detect and re-plan a delayed route.
“Our clients stopped calling us. The system tells them before they ask — and we see the whole fleet on one screen.” — Operations manager, Atlas Freight
